A MACHINE is a brand being introduced to Korea for the first time.

Since 2017, the designer has been expressing his ideas through textiles, and since 2018, he has been presenting them through clothing. Each season, he conveys unique messages through different themes. For this season, he raises the question:

“As a small-scale menswear brand, what meaning and value can we hold in the fashion market?”

Unlike mainstream ready-to-wear brands, A MACHINE believes that small labels can explore alternative possibilities for survival through their own unique aesthetics.
These “aesthetics” are not limited to the outward appearance of garments, but also include:

• the history and tradition carried by major brands

• craftsmanship

• the narratives and world-building of large-scale fashion shows

• symbolic spaces such as flagship stores

However, when a small brand attempts to embody these “aesthetics,” limited resources often pose the risk of appearing more like costumes or cosplay—giving the impression of remaining within a fictional world detached from reality.

Small-scale brands do not possess the runway, the glamorous stage, or the long history that such aesthetics require. They also lack competitiveness in terms of pricing and functionality.
Thus, this season’s work becomes both a self-reflection—“Can the clothing of a small brand truly hold value?”—and an expression of that very question.
